There is a familiar joy of new motherhood that overflows from this mama. I know it because I am in this very same stage. It’s a joy that is deeply rooted in the appreciation of what motherhood is and all that it entails. It stems from a new understanding of how much your own mother loved you. For Ashley, and myself, there is some bittersweet heartache that intertwines with the newfound joy. There is a piece missing… the one where you pick up the phone to call your own mom to delight in the new thing your daughter has learned to do or say. What I have learned from my own loss of my mother is that I carry her with me more than I had ever imagined. I find myself more like her and find my own joy when it happens. It’s like a special wink from her. So, Ashley… as you navigate this incredible love you have for your girl, may you feel your mom’s guidance and love. And let’s not leave dad out… you can see from the smile on his face and his body language that he is one happy dad. I am blessed to have captured Mike and Ashley when their story began and now with this new chapter in their life together. So much love!
