Finding beauty in the in between | Johnson Family

August 24, 2017

We all know that joy is contagious. The hard part is finding that joy when you feel like your two year old is testing your last nerve.

LET GO OF PERFECT.

Having your family photos taken takes not only prep with clothing, but balancing everyone’s moods and expectations. What I want you to realize is that I don’t expect your kids to be perfect. Honestly, I want you to let go of perfect and embrace the imperfect. I am looking for beauty in the chaos, the fun in disaster, and the moments in between.

I want kids to feel free to be themselves. Whether it is a scrunch faced smile, a pouting moment, or an affectionate one… they are all things that speak of your story. Play along with them. Laugh with them when they do something silly, comfort them when they cry, and allow me to find the details that create the beauty. The more relaxed you are, the more freedom I have to capture your bond, your love, and your joy.

BEAUTY IN THE CHOAS

Sometimes when things feel the craziest, I will turn it up a notch. I guide you through to create something memorable…. and I always let you know when I am getting exactly what I want out of the chaos.

My best friend of twenty plus years allows me to capture their family each year. As Kamryn and Quinn get older, the hilarious moments in between change just a bit. I let them feel like they are running the show, always thinking one step ahead. While I have an initial plan, being open to what they will do on their own is often the best part. I roll with the punches at all times, allowing myself to be inspired as things unfold. Shani and Ron are prepped each time to let the girls be themselves… to not feed into the negative moments… but redirect. While their is always guidance, these parents have figured out how to kiss their kids, hug each other, and laugh in between.
Kiss your kids… Unexpectedly, both girls want to cling to dad…..
And it created this…. See that face from mom? That’s the unexpected laughter when your child decides she just wants to do her own thing.

“Tell each other secrets” – This turned into several hilarious minutes. I gave them nothing to say, but they ran with it.  Quinn…. My favorite little disaster.
