A child under the age of three and a newborn. I see this age gap quite often. One is working their way out of diapers and playing independently just as the next one arrives. While many parents envision these amazing photos of their two kids at these ages snuggling close to one another, giving kisses, and being perfectly cooperative… it doesn’t often happen. Let’s be honest. Almost three year olds are usually pretty active and have short attention spans. (Insert my constant state of changing gears during my portrait sessions) You can always hope for photos of these ages together, but many times it takes a lot of spotting by parents so the new babe doesn’t get bumped and upset, or tossed over. As two and a half year old Vinnie greeted me, you could tell how excited he was for company. To my complete surprise, this big brother was the gentlest I’ve ever seen. It was as if he knew to protect his baby brother. He would carefully lay next to him, wrap his arms around him and….. lay still beside him. That last part… the most important part… laying still beside him. Vinnie did everything I wanted with new baby Milo and more. If I had his brother laying asleep on the bed, he would quietly come in, climb up, and give him kisses. While I would love to take credit for this unbelievable ease of these two ages together… I have to give big props to mom and dad. You guys are clearly bringing a calming feel to this new addition that big brother Vinnie has gone along with. Parents… your kids feed off your energy. If your stressed, typically they act up when you don’t want them to. Sit back and relax and you may be surprised at how well they do.
For this new little guy, it appears that he has a great big brother that has been looking out for him from the very beginning. Welcome to the world, Milo. You are loved.
Thank you for those amazing pictures of you beautiful family. Loved them and the update on Vinny and babe. Miss you guys!!! Stop in at the farm when you’re in Minnesota. Kids will love collecting chicken eggs and playing with horses and pooches.
With much love, Auntie Bo
